Yellow-vented Bulbul

An abundant bulbul in Singapore. Bright yellow vent, white head and black lores made it quite distinctive. Upperparts are light brown, with whitish underparts streaked brown. Widely distributed.

Straw-headed Bulbul

Largest bulbul in SE Asia. It has a distinctive golden crown and cheeks along with a black eye stripe and moustache. Its nape, back and breast are brownish wiht white streaks. Wings and tail are olive-green. Its throat is white. Formally wide spread across Thai-Malay Pennisula and islands of Borneo, Sumatra and Java. It is bow restricted to small scattered populations in West Malaysia and Corneo. However, the specie is doing well in Singapore.

Red-whiskered Bulbul

A brown, black and white bulbul with a prominant crest. Upperparts dark brown, contrasting with mostly white underparts and bright red undertail coverts. Black crest, red whiskers and large white cheek patch demarcated from throat by thin black malar stripe. Young birds are less strongly marked and lack the red whiskers.

Olive-winged Bulbul

The most regularly encountered bulbul in Singapore forests. Its diagnostic olive-green wings can be difficult to discern. In such cases, its combination of red eyes and streaks around the cheeks are also distinctive features. Upperparts are gnerally dark brown, with underparts a lighter shade of brown.
