Fei Yee Ching - Love in the Past
I bought two CDs in 2008 Sight and Sound Journal Hi-fi Show, the songs of Fei Yee Ching. The label is abc, and the CD booklet mentioned that the CD was remastered using HD-Mastering technique in Germany. Though the CDs seemed marketed at audiophile CD, the price was very reasonable. So I just went ahead and bought them as even when later the recording standard was found not up to audiophile standard, it would be still OK for the price I paid.

It was during my time in secondary school I bought my very first cassette by this very popular Taiwan Chinese singer Fei Yee Ching. And I remembered since then I had been following his music releases very closely. He has a very peculiar soft and gentle voice. In those days there were many fantastic lyrics and music writers and Fei had sung many nice and memorable Chinese pops.
I guessed when I went National Service I kind of broke contact with Fei’s further releases until I met a friend many years later who brought my attention back to three of Fei’s CD albums. It was Rio Music production and the 3 CDs were produced from 1992 to 1994. Same style typical of Fei, but what caught my attention then was the very high quality recording of the 3 albums. Well, maybe not to the audiophile standard but certainly still stands out from the many average recordings you can find in the market. Unfortunately these 3 CDs probably already out of print.

I spent some time comparing the abc label with the rest of the Fei’s labels I have and did not find the abc recording particularly superior then the rest of the recordings. Anyway, as I have said the price was good, and that is a small price to pay to bring back good old memories.

The Little Mermaid
My youngest daughter had been watching this DVD “Little Mermaid” for so many times that even me could almost remember all the dialogues. “The Little Mermaid” attracted my daughter and myself by its lively and interesting story, and the beautiful music and songs.
I much prefer cartoon animation movies from the older days: The stories were more imaginative and naive, normally straight forward and direct. The modern cartoon animations are just too matured in my opinion, as if they were written for adults. I also find cartoons like Power Rangers and some Japanese animations kind of violent to a certain extent.
“Snow White” is another old animation movie that I like, for the same reasons as “The Little Mermaid”. The music performed by the Symphony Orchestra are all specially composed to match the animation story and the characters' movements. I really appreciate the tremendous thoughts and effort that had been put into the supporting music to make them match so seamlessly to the animations.
In “The Little Mermaid” the court composer Sebastian, a crab, is the key to all the music in the movie. I particularly like the part where Prince Eric and Ariel, the mermaid, was boating in a nice evening in a peaceful lake. In order to create a romantic atmosphere to make the prince kisses the mermaid, Sebastian improvise a music on the spot, which is one of the highlights of the show with very attractive music and imaginative animation.
Now “The Little Mermaid” can be purchased as a set of 3 DVDs, which include “Ariel’s Beginning”, “The Little Mermaid” and “ The Little Mermaid II”. “Ariel’s Beginning” is talking about things happened before “The Little Mermaid”. “Little Mermaid II” is about Arial’s daughter Melody, who longing for life under the water, as opposed to her mother Ariel who was longing for life on land.
Maybe I am still childish, but watching an animation with fairy tales, nice music and wonderful imagination is really an enjoyable experience to me............ |

Randomness ...............
Got this idea from a friend's album in FaceBook. This section is for those articles I wrote which belong to neither here nor there, where I cannot fit them into the existing sections. So, they will find their home here.
And hope you will enjoy reading them.
Life is short, treasure every moment you have with your friends and your love ones, we only die once ............
In life, I prefer to look forward, be positive and move on. Nevertheless I treasure those memories in the past, all those who had once walk the same path with me. In a race, there are more than just winning. The journey to the end point is more important than the end point itself. Be happy, and do just what your heart tells you to do so ........
