Chinese Pond Heron
A small, stocky and short-necked heron. Non-breeding birds, which are most often seen, are streaked brown on head, neck and breast, with brown upperparts and white wings, and are nearly impossible to tell apart from non-breeding Javan and Indian Pond Herons. Early-arriving or late-departing birds may be in diagnostic breeding plumages, chestnut-maroon on head, neck and breast.

Malayan Night Heron
A medium size, short necked, rufous Heron with contrasting black crown and crest. Bill black, facial skin greenish blue, legs and feet green. Juvenile is duller with irregular buffish and greyish barring and vermiculations througout plumage, while throat is pale buffy with dark mesial streak.
